Laying Graphics over each other

I have a page and i have a gradient background (a gif) on it.
What I am trying now to do is put a big blue background box on top of this gradient background.. but everytime I use the background tag for it, it ofcourses replaces the gradient background with the big blue box, insted of laying the big blue background on top. Any one have the code for this?

You'll have to create a child element, and apply the new background to that.
