Dom scrollbar to keep position on refresh

I'm using the DOM Drag & Drop script to create a custom scrollbar on a php chat window. The problem I'm having is that the scroll bar resets every time the update script refreshes to load new messages from the server.

I've been trying to edit a script from Patrick Foley's blog to work with the scrollbar but I can't get it to work.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

I have trouble working the dom scroller script into my page. I'm now using youngpup's modified DOM script however the scrollbar resetting on refresh is still an issue.
