Just nothing - only the loading... icon - forever...

It anyway might have to do with the file fpslideshowvar.php
I don't think it is a javascript issue as the problem occured only after the upgrade from PHP 5.6 to 7.0
I have no idea how to check...

When trying to optimise them to about 50% of the original file size the image quality decreases significantly. So I am staying with my beloved Gimp...
