Can you post a link to a live page? It's easier to see the problem on a real page than a Zip file.

If the problem is double spacing in IE, that is a common issue with a simple fix:

That's a tooltip script - it won't zoom an image.

You need an image zoom script like Magic Zoom.

There is a Joomla/Virtuemart module, so you don't have to do any coding of templates:

I think you need quite a specialist JavaScript to do that. You might need to hack a script in order to get the effect you want.
