iPad2/9.3.5 drops pages with JavaScript enabled

Hello folks,

My iPad2, running original iOS, was beginning to drop pages on a regular basis (blank screen and reload, or "a problem with this page occurred and it has been reloaded") and in desperation, I upgraded to 9.3.5.

The problem became worse and among a number of attempted fixes, most of which I have forgotten, I backed up my device and did a complete reset. No luck.

The only thing that solves the problem is going to settings, advanced and disabling JavaScript. Of course, such a radical effort brings its own set of performance issues and is an unacceptable option.

Any advice would be appreciated.

you might be encountering a problem because of an older iPad, you might want to downgrade to iOS 9.2

I'm running 9.3.5 and unless I'm mistaken, there is no going back to older versions of iOS on iPad.

As I mentioned, the issue seems related to JavaScript since disabling it stabilizes the device, with other problems then appearing.

Thanks for your response, but again, I don't believe it's possible to go backwards with iOS.

What I have discovered is that transferring complex website "background" processing from my feeble and overworked ipad2, which can't seem to handle contemporary web page complexity, to Puffin has solved my "reloading page" problems.

Just wish Puffin could be my default from Yahoo! since I still need to copy/paste urls into Puffin if I'm looking at pages embedded in email, which defaults to Safari, where problems are worst. Searching with Puffin, which also uses Google, is ideal.

Interestingly, if I simply copy (no paste) a url in Safari, then open Chrome, I'll get a line that says "recently copied", which I can click and open, with much less frequent page drops. Still, too many for my liking, so it's Puffin all the way.

So far, Puffin works for me and I'm no longer tempted to upgrade to a new iPad.
