There are quite a few extremely knowledgable folks here.

So sorry to ask this question, but I can't find an obvious way to open a new thread.

If you go to one of the sub forums such as php you should see a button on the upper left hand side which says "Post New Thread". If you do not see it right away try ctrl+f and type in "Post New Thread". If it is still not visible post back here and we can look into it further, although we will probably split your question off from this thread and into a new thread.
