External Hard Drive not recognized

Hey guys I've been having lots of problems with this old hard drive i found recently. I have a brand new laptop that i bought running windows 7 and it worked perfectly on it. Allowing me to transfer all my data through USB. Now when i plug it to my slightly older desktop, running windows xp pro it doesn't work. Under device managers it comes out USB mass storage device with a yellow exclamation point. Also when i looked at the drivers it was using on my laptop, they were disk.sys and partmgr.sys. But on my desktop it was USBSTOR.sys. I was wondering if anyone had ideas of how to fix this problem. I tried uninstalling it and rebooting and that did not work. Also unplugging it from the wall was unsuccessful. If anyone had any ideas that would be great!
