i want to add a place for people to comment on my blog, with a link showing how many people commented. a random examples would be

Nope, wrong forum. If you are using a blog package or site, a forum dedicated to that particular package or site is where you should go. However, LLAMAvsCOW, I'm curious. Who won?
Commenting is usually a prebuilt feature of most blog software. If not you'd have to code your own, or use one of those plug and play comment systems. The most popular one that comes to mind is Haloscan.
