IE8 has arrived- so has the work to ensure DD scripts are compatible in it

Rating: 16 votes, 3.31 average.
Well, IE8 was officially released today, and most reviews I've come across on the web seems to be more or less positive, some even saying it puts IE back on top of FF. I've been using IE8 since the beta releases, and to me it's no FF killer. But personal feelings aside, the fact of the matter is, IE8 has arrived, it will eventually become the top browser market share wise in time as it's fed to Windows users, and unfortunately, this means it's also time to go through all scripts on DD to ensure they are compatible in IE8.

I'll be using this entry to update folks on scripts that have just been modified for the sake of IE8 moving forward. These updates may not show up on the DD Revised Scripts Page if they are minor in nature, so you should check in here instead. Feel free to let me know of a particular DD script that doesn't work in IE8 as well (by replying here).

For those do-it-yourself kind of people, there are resources on the web on getting JavaScript to properly work in IE8, from the simpliest but least graceful to getting to the possible root of the issue.

IE8, for better or for worse, welcome.

Accordion Menu script has just been updated to fix an issue that causes margins/paddings in accordion DIVs to be lost in IE8 when a DIV expands/contracts. Only .js file changed.

I have a problem with "Mike's DHTLM Scroller" at this link: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamici...mikescroll.htm

I've used it for years without problem. With the introduction of IE8 it stopped working unless you select/execute the "compatibility view." I don't know JS and have no idea what needs changing so I'm hopeful that Mike is still with us and willing to make updates to his code.

If that isn't possible maybe someone would post what changes are needed and we can then update our copies of the script.

A third possibility, but by no means desirable, would be to post code on how to force IE to use compatibility mode.

can you please look into scrip called "Chrome CSS Drop Down Menu" located at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamici...rome/index.htm

It worked fine in IE7 but not in IE8.

Chrome CSS Menu has been updated with a fix for IE8, specifically, the hover effect not working inside the drop down menus. The issue apparently is the shadow property that exists inside chromestyle.css. For the time being, the only way to fix it seems to be to remove it:

    Code:
filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Shadow(color=#CACACA,direction=135,strength=4); /*Add Shadow in IE. Remove if desired*/

    Hello,
Are there any updates for this in the pipeline ?

When clicking to 'hide' text/image, it just moves the rest of the container up and leaves the footer as it was, ie. a big white space between end of container and the footer.

If we then switch to another page, (setPersist = true), the page is rendered normally with the first text/image hidden. If we then click to 'show' the hidden elements, it displays them but pushes the rest of the container down and OVER the top of the footer.

    Here's the URL :-
    http://www.rbbfc.org/Stats08-09/1sts.asp
to switch to another page as described above, click SECONDS from the nav bar.

PS. there are 2 instances of the script on bothe pages - the other one is in the footer

This doesn't happen in IE7- or FF - it works normally.
    Thanks in advance

PS. I've since added this meta tag
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7">
    and it now works normally

    Hello-

Do you yet have an update for the HV Menu v5.5? In IE8 the menu appears to be ignoring the width and height set to each level. You can see an example of what I mean here: http://www.rgrentals.com. The meta tag fix does not appear to solve the problem. Any insight would be wonderful.

    Thank you!

Is it true that we don't have to support IE6 anymore? http://www.squidoo.com/best-san-leandro-florist
