putfile has thier rightclick disabled. A popup box comes up saying direct linking is not permitted, that if I do I will be banned. How do they know??:D

Or do they say that so they canscare more people out of it?

They can check the Referer header sent by the browser to see which page linked to it. This isn't a reliable source, since some firewalls can remove it, but then again, they only need one...

Hmm... weird.

The better question is why. Heh.

So is there any way to keep them from knowing?:) ;)

Unfortunately not :)

Oh, by the way, don't ask that kind of question here... in this case there's no satisfactory answer, but even if there were, I don't think I'd be allowed to tell you what it was due to DD's terms of use.

Hmm... I guess it makes sense.

The point is that they are offering a service, but not "full use"... it's according to their terms. Nice of them to let you know, really... so they don't just kick you off/delete your file for something you didn't know.

Sure, there's a way around it... just link to their page, not the file directly :)

Well as of right now. I have prob. about 15 files linked directly.

You want a free server. See.... that's like wanting a free sandwich.
Sure, great idea.. just who's stupid enough to give space away.

Look around for a better free host... they exist, or get over the obsession with free and spend some money. It's worth it, really, assuming you can afford a couple bucks.

you are asking SO many questions lately about how to get "good hosting for free" and the answer is no. You can get hosts that vary in what's bad about them, but, no, none are perfect and paid ones are better.

The direct linking limitations are because they make money from ads and want your files' viewers to be forced to see the ads.
They're doing you a service, they want a service in return.

Just google hosts.. and find one that fits your liking. Good ones usually go down, though, because they're not profitable. Heh. Ironic.

And you can get very-cheap hosts, too... as in, $5 per month...

Yeah, definitely.

For ten bucks, you can have the hosting I do. I don't particularly like my host... and wouldn't recommend, them, but it's not like they're the only ones with the price.
I also have more space than could ever be used (though, hosting videos takes a lot) and lots of bandwidth.

So... look into it :)

The only thing about paid hosts, is that i'm in not even out of highschool yet. And dont have a job. No way to pay for it...

I could prob. get the money, but my parents dont trust almost any site w/ the credit card.

I don't have a job. I'm graduating in two weeks. Had my hosting account(s) for over a year.

They're really not that expensive.

And.. then that's just fine.... but... not much to work with.

Again, refer to the sandwich.

"But I don't have any money!".... umm... sorry. heh.

I think that's a no, but that debit cards might work. They're like credit cards but from your bank account.

Basically.... yeah... gotta use a card of some sort, generally.

Though... I guess you can pay however you want... I think they accept different things, BUT you WILL need a card on file in case you don't pay.

I mentioned debit cards because one can get one at the age of sixteen, over here at least.

well not quite 16, but in a couple of months. But I think some banks give out gift cards that are visas, and they are reloadable. but im almost sure that they charge for the card....
