Count up comments

I have a blog, www.flamehtmlstudios.com/longroad, and all of the posts are on the index. The viewer clicks comments/read more on the index under each post and is taken to the page with the comments.
I'm curious as to how to count up the comments so I can display how many on the index? Say, one of them had 5 comments...so on the index, it says "read more / 5 comments"?

Any ideas?
