.htaccess problems

Hi everyone,

if you dont know me I am Samsoske.......hmmmm

Oh well

I would like to know if any can explain how you get the .htaccess generator on DD to work (well when i mean "work", it means i dont understand it...)

I put in my user name and password to generate, then it tells me to save this code in my .htaccess folder.

Is .htaccess a text file in a seperate folder or a file extention.......AHHH i am so confused....

Wow:) Thanks, yeah that site is a big help.... You see when i made the .htaccess file it came out as .htaccess.txt or something, so that really threw me off. Anyway thanks again.... If I ever have problems again i'll know who to ask.

Must you upload it to your web host to preview it, or can you just preview it like a web page on your browser???

You can't preview it. It affects how other pages are served; it isn't a page itself.

but you have to be cerfule with that also, many webhosting servers are not supporting .htaccess if you will store them in your root directory you can get error 500 as well
