Used much like the original this is a mod I made for a similar request in 2013, read the comments/instructions at the beginning of the .js file, any questions - I'll do my best (it's been awhile):

One possible init:

<script type="text/javascript">
var acrawler = marqueeInit({
uniqueid: 'mycrawler',
style: {'width': '200px', 'height': '1005px'},
inc: 10, //speed - pixel increment for each iteration of this marquee's movement
mouse: 'drag cursor driven', //mouseover behavior ('pause' 'cursor driven' or false)
moveatleast: 2,
persist: true,
addDelay: 30,
savedirection: 'reverse'

I have a working demo, if you need it I can put it up somewhere.

NOTES: Be aware this is not mobile/touch friendly as far as I know, though could still work out OK with limited functionality on those platforms - or might be a mess, in which case alternate content or simply disabling it for those devices might be required. Also, though I wrote this script, I'm no longer a great fan of scrolling marquee like features because the constant position updates are a challenge in many browsers leading to at least somewhat choppy looking motion often times. There are other vertical image scripts that move image by image, one at a time on demand or on a timer, rather than constantly being in motion. I would say this type of motion is preferable. One such script is DD's SAG Content Scroller (not my code, but I and others could help with it):
