Image Magick vulnerability

I just came across this warning (http://arstechnica.com/security/2016/05/easily-exploited-bug-exposes-huge-number-of-sites-to-code-execution-attacks/) about vulnerabilities in the Image Magick library. Anyone using the library should be aware of the possibility of attacks on their sites.

There are potential vulnerabilities to virtually anything one might do, if done in an ill considered manner. Is there no safe way to use ImageMagick?
