I use the equalcolumns.js for a 2 column layout, which looks good on the desktop. On mobile devices the pages where the content column is long and the sidebar column is short it keeps the equal columns, but now they should not be equal because the sidebar column has a lot of blank space before the footer appears. Is it possible to turn off equalcolumns when the responsive layout kicks in and collapses the 2 columns?

You can probably get away from using JavaScript for equal heights and do it with CSS, like this (on desktop);

On the #container div, add the style overflow:hidden;

And on the #sidebar div, add the styles padding-bottom:9999px; margin-bottom:-9999px;

This is one of the oldest ways to achieve equal heights (for 2 columns) in CSS, but there are newer techniques that can be used for 3, 4, 5, etc columns here: https://css-tricks.com/fluid-width-equal-height-columns/
