In all the turmoil of people fighting each other for futile things, it's good to be an 'Amsterdammer (http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=7gz85gePA58)' (let it be). By the way, it's hard to understand the Italian tenor (Joseph Calleja) singing the old Dutch song 'Aan de Amserdamse Grachten' ('On the Amsterdam's Canals'). But at least he tries.

Arie,I am trying to remember what town I lived in when My father was in the US Air Force. It could have been Amsterdam but I am not 100% sure.

I guess you're talking about the time just after the Second World War. Yes, there were farms in the outskirts of Amsterdam. They're still there.
But maybe your father stayed in the north of Holland (somewhere in Friesland or Groningen), which is less urbanized, and where the cows still graze in the open land.
