3) Describe problem: When viewing the demo, there is an image jumping that is distracting. Is this intended?

Can code be altered to make a fading in be done over the last image fading out?

Or, is there a slider on the DD site that I missed that does fade in/out?

The jumping if I understood your description correctly is probably due to the images inside the slideshow not having been preloaded. In general you can use JavaScript to preload images in the HEAD section of your page with a code like the below:

var preloadimages = ["1.gif", "2.gif", "3.gif", "etc.gif"], preloaded = []
for (var i=0; i<preloadimages.length; i++){
preloaded = new Image()
preloaded.src = preloadimages[i]
}
</script>

As far as modifying the fade effect so it's both a fade out and fade in, it may be possible, but basically you're probably better off looking for another script that does that by default, since the modifications required on this deep would be quite involving.
