Hi Folks,

Is there any way to delete or uninstall or remove or obliterate all games from my computer? And if not all games, what about just hearts?

I have Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, version 6.1.7601.

Hi marain,

This probably has to be the oddest question I have ever come across on dynamic drive forums, and if nothing else, I'd like to know why just deleting hearts is an option. Seriously though, that's the thing I'd most like to know on this thread.

Anyway, actually to the helping part.
You can just turn games off if you wish (quickest and easiest option), via, control-panel -> programs and features -> uncheck "games".

Bernie.

Bernie, I will attempt to quench your curiosity.

The games are too much of a distraction for me. They provide a ready-made excuse to stop working. I can do without that. Especially hearts. Hearts uses what I find to be a sophisticated algorithm that draws me to it.

I implemented your solution, and I thank you for same. Your solution appears to not remove the games. It just makes it more difficult to reach, as I'd simply need to recheck "games," and their availability is restored. However, their absence on the all programs menu, and their absence on the all programs right sidebar menu, may be sufficient to help me keep my nose to the grindstone. If there is a way to remove the games completely, rather than to just "hide" them, I would be interested in doing that. There ought to be a way. When I'm using public computers in a hotel, for example, diversions such as those have all been removed.

Thanks again.

Unfortunately, games are actually part of the windows 7 OS, so there actually isn't any way for you to permenantly delete them. So unfortunately, you'll have to make do with hiding them sneakily.

The first option, is simply making it harder to get to that checkbox for games. Instructions as follows:

Click the Start orb and enter gpedit.msc in the search box and select it from the programs in the results.

Expand the window to full screen. Select and expand User Configuration folder.
Expand Adminstrative Templates folder.
Expand Control Panel folder.
Select the Add or Remove Programs folder.
You should see an item labeled Hide Add/Remove Windows Components page in the list. Double-click and configure that to hide that option once you have games removed and other features that you want added. Close out. That prevents the ability to add the games back.

The second option, which I think is much more effective, is checking out Applocker so you can lock yourself out from the games:

Many thanks.

BTW you answered me twice, but each time your number of posts stood at 1000. Perhaps what that field tracts is number of threads posted to?

Thanks again.

Uh, HEARTily yours,

A.

Posts in the Computer hardware and software forum should count towards post count.
The first time he responded... I don't believe he was an elite coder.

Ah, but if only there were a way to remove all distractions from a computer :D

To answer your question, I believe I was at either my first post on this thread was about 998 and the second was 1,000. I may be mistaken but that was what was shown on my screen.

Unfortunately games are builtin part of the windows OS , so you can not remove it completely. may be you can keep them inactive from control panel.

Friendly reminder: Unless there is a good reason, please do not respond to old threads.

I know this is an old thread but I really like to know that if there is a way or not. I have searched it on google and found out about this post and saw all the comments but there was no solution given to this guy. I also need to know about this. Do we really can permanently delete the built in games?.
