Hello everyone,
I'n curious, if you made your own social networking site ( Very hard but not 100% impossible) what would you name it? Cause I'm giving it a go ( for the experience ) and I'm stumped on a simple name...
Anyone got any ideas?
P.s.
If I ever make a social networking site that takes the world by storm and I use a name from here, I'll make a credits page and on it I promise I'll write your name! How incredibly un-exciting is that!

Well, part of the problem is getting a good domain name.
So you've got two choices: try to buy a great name (something like connect.com) or make up a new word, like google.
Interesting question. If I think of a specific answer I'll post it.
I think it partly depends on the type of site-- is this a site about meeting new people or staying connected with people you know?
If it's about connecting with new people (especially internationally) I'd name it something involving "world" or a word like that.

Thanks for your reply!
Definetly for keeping in touch with friends and you bring up a good point about the domain name. It be pretty stupid if you named it catchupwithyourfriends (stange example I know) but couldn't get that domain name...
Gives me some more to think about to...

Actually I was thinking about creating a new unrelated word(like google as you said) so might pursue that path...

or:
SkyNet (sorry, Arnold already has that one)
Seriously though and speaking of spam, this thread has attracted a couple of spam posts. If it gets a few more I'll be inclined to close it.

I'm subscribed to the thread and I've gotten a couple of emails saying there were posts, but when I check back there arn't. What's that about?
Also, when I look at the emails, it says what the person has written, but it doesn't look like spam???
Why is this thread attracting spam anymore than all the others?

It's a general open ended question. As such it attracts people with nothing much to say other than some throwaway response coupled with a link to their page.
There have been three such posts so far, here's an example with the spam link revealed and obfuscated:
yeah, i agree that choosing a domain name is harder than making up one
i'd go fore something simple - a couple of words maybe.
choosing name for your work is hard but pleasant part :)
i make software sites, so it is a little easier with names there

Even if the person has something of merit to say, if they include a spam link, they may still be banned and their post deleted. At the very least, the link should be removed and their account given a rules violation infraction.
You say you got the texts of the others, was there any actually helpful stuff in any of them. The only one that even suggested a name gave just one:
'Friendface'
They had a spam link:
"Want to buy melanotan?"
that went to a website selling tanning products.
Even if you did find the other (what I consider) fluff these people put in their posts trying to make them appear legitimately helpful, you still got that material in your texts, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Have now pondered and decided upon an answer.
I can't set this thread to resolved - It's been too long - so please don't post any more answers. :)
