View Full Version : how do u get .htaccess Password to work?

1) Script Title: .htaccess Password

2) Script URL (on DD): http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/password/

3) Describe problem: i don't know how to save the files :confused: do u save them all seperatly as .html files? can some 1 please send me an example and i will change the .htpasswd (and the positioning and file)

.htaccess and .htpasswd are the filenames (extension only; nothing before the dot). You save them in the directory that you want to be password-protected.

If you can't save the files with those names, upload them to your server first, and then rename them.

I wrote directory (or "folder"), not dictionary.

i have but it still not got a password on the file i would like and do i just save .htpasswd and .htaccess as .txt files

No, they are not .txt files. .htaccess and .htpasswd are the complete file names. If you can't save them that way on your computer, you'll need to rename them once you upload them to your website.

You mean, will it work on your local computer? Not unless you have a web server (like LAMPP) installed. If you're looking at your page using the file:// protocol, then no, it won't have any effect at all.
