Hiding a Background

Hello,

I've got a problem. I have a horizontal bar, that should go across the entire page. The problem is that the bar "shifts" in the middle of the page, and the background that it is on top of is patterned.

I'm not sure how to explain it. Here's a picture for help:

Anyone know how to do this in CSS, or would I have to figure out some dirty trick to make it work?

do you have a link to the site, so that we may see the problem for ourselves?

Alternatively, give us the code and the appropriate images used.

Image problems are invariably difficult to resolve, otherwise. :(
