Problem inserting

im pretty n00b when it comes to this....

i keep on having to edit every single page when i change the html in one page eg add a link i just wondered can anyone help me on giving me a script that will insert a header and footer.

E.G
<HEADER>
the page content of one of my pages
<footer>

the script i need is for it somehow to fetch the html need for header and footer i would be grateful of help thanks :D

What type of pages is your site, for example, .shtml, .php etc? For .shtml, you can use SSI to easily embed the an external file (its contents) onto multiple pages across your site: http://javascriptkit.com/howto/externalhtml3.shtml For PHP, there is a similar function.
