View Full Version : Images do not show in Subfolders

01-21-2011, 01:59 PM
1) Script Title: fadeslideshow

2) Script URL (on DD): http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex14/fadeinslideshow_suppliment.htm

3) Describe problem:

Images do not show in Subfolders
On the index.html page. The FAdeshow shows the images, using this link mysite.com/images/1.jpg
When I put an index.html page in a subfolder: Mysite.com/subfolder/index.html, the Fadeshow does not show the images.
All other images such as. the logo: mysite.com/images/logo.jpg
the navbar images mysite.com/images/navbar.jpg .
etc: mysite.com/images/header.jpg

All those links above show up in the Subfolder, but the Fade show script does not work.

Here's the script with the link I am using:

<script type="text/javascript">

var mygallery=new fadeSlideShow({
wrapperid: "fadeshow1", //ID of blank DIV on page to house Slideshow
dimensions: [200, 180], //width/height of gallery in pixels. Should reflect dimensions of largest image
imagearray: [
["http://www.mysite.com/images/1.jpg", "", "", ""],

With a link like mysite.com/images/1.jpg, doesn't the images usually show up in most sub folders just as my logo.jpg does above?
Its direct to the images folder?
What am I doing wrong?
Someone please help!

Ordinarily they do. The most common reason why not is that there's a mismatch in the upper and lower case of all or parts of the path and/or filename.

That, or the path and/or filename is just wrong.

But there could be a lot of reasons. Usually it's just one. But it could be more than one.

If you want more help:

Please post a link to a page on your site that contains the problematic code so we can check it out.

I sent an email to your jscheuer1 account I hope that was your emaill address.
I dont like to put my clients links on forums as someone will always complain that I am seeking promotion or selling. I just want help. I hope that was your email address at AOL.com that I sent the link to the website I am working on.?
Please let me know.
I dont know how to PM you.

That wasn't my email address, it's my username here, but not @aol.com, rather @comcast.net. So send to that, or wait until you have 5 posts in the forum. Then you can use the PM system here.

I totally understand not publishing links to client sites in a forum. I wish more people understood that. You may also use tinyurl.com - it lets you publish a link without actually promoting it or affecting its SEO, or creating SE results for the site that point to the forum.

It's this last issue that people should be more concerned about than are. You don't want potential customers/whoever, that are looking for your site or a client's site to find among the top results on Google a link pointing to a help forum thread.

There could also be other problems. But on the espanol and the sub sub page, the:

<script type="text/javascript" src="fadeslideshow.js">

* Ultimate Fade In Slideshow v2.0- (c) Dynamic Drive DHTML code library (www.dynamicdrive.com)
* This notice MUST stay intact for legal use
* Visit Dynamic Drive at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ for this script and 100s more

is a 404 not found. You can use the absolute path there as you have for the images:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.loveministriesuniversal.org/fadeslideshow.js">

But then any of these (from fadeslideshow.js) that you are using should have their absolute paths listed here as well:

/* Ultimate Fade-in slideshow (v2.4)
* Last updated: May 24th, 2010. This notice must stay intact for usage
* Author: Dynamic Drive at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/
* Visit http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ for full source code

//Oct 6th, 09' (v2.1): Adds option to randomize display order of images, via new option displaymode.randomize
//May 24th, 10' (v2.4): Adds new "peakaboo" option to "descreveal" setting. oninit and onslide event handlers added.

var fadeSlideShow_descpanel={
controls: [['x.png',7,7], ['restore.png',10,11], ['loading.gif',54,55]], //full URL and dimensions of close, restore, and loading images
fontStyle: 'normal 11px Verdana', //font style for text descriptions
slidespeed: 200 //speed of description panel animation (in millisec)

//No need to edit beyond here...

Hi John.

I did what you said about the absolute path in the Script it worked on the pages in the subfolders, Thanks.

Now everything works in Mozilla and Google Chrome.

But in IE, theres a different story. The pages in the Subfolders are working just fine,
but the index, page and anything not in subfolders are not working. What is with IE, why is the script working in other browsers, but not IE.
I must be doing something wrong in IE.
Please check out the index page and tell me why its not working and the others pages that are in the public html. thanks for your help.

Now on the .JS:
I wasnt sure what to do within the .Js except to put it on the server.
I dont understand the ping, restore, load,
Where is the x.png?
is this something I am suppose to upload to the server?
like an image?

The absolute paths within the .JS
Are these suppose to look like this?
http://www.loveministriesuniversal.org/x.png ??

Did you mean I should put all of my images in the JS and not on the webpage?
That would be nice, but I dont know how to do that.

If I wanted to write a description somewhere of the pictures, where do I do that in the .JS??
I never understood the .JS completely.

The index page is currently a 404 not Found. But otherwise things work OK in IE 9, 8, and 7 here. Perhaps you have it cached in IE.

But these images:

are 404 not Found. That can mess up IE.

Your new helper image's locations are 404 not Found. Upload those images (available on the demo page) to those locations and they will be fine.

As for descriptions, the demo page shows where those go. But, here's part of what you have:

imagearray: [
["http://www.loveministriesuniversal.org/images/1.jpg", "", "", ""],
["http://www.loveministriesuniversal.org/images/2.jpg", "", "", ""],
["http://www.loveministriesuniversal.org/images/4.jpg", "", "", ""],
["http://www.loveministriesun . . .

You may do like:

imagearray: [
["http://www.loveministriesuniversal.org/images/1.jpg", "", "", "Description Here"],
["http://www.loveministriesuniversal.org/images/2.jpg", "", "", "Another Description"],
["http://www.loveministriesuniversal.org/images/3.jpg", "", "", "A Description"],
["http://www.loveministriesuniversal.org/images/4.jpg", "", "", "More Description"],
["http://www.loveministriesun . . .

I have made the corrections and will have to upload the correct pictures. I am so glad you noticed the index404 page. I had no idea it was not there.
Thanks for everything
