Navigational Menu & Google ranking

I have heard that navigational menus are not the best solution for the page ranking in Google : links not recognized or something like that... :o
What can you tell me ? ;)

Search engines like Google should have no trouble indexing the contents of Smooth Navigational Menu, since the menu links are defined as regular HTML markup on the page (provided you're not using the Ajax option instead).

I am using the ajax option : is that a disadvantage regarding Google ranking ?
