I am assuming that only load htm or html files, is this correct? If so is there a way to modify the script to load .pl files from a cgi-bin, i.e.
http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/mydir/afile.pl.

Actually, Ajax can load dynamic pages as well. You should be able to display that page without problems.
