using gmail to send code

Gmail can do many different things, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to send code examples in a gmail and not as an attachment. Code that is slightly formatted for readability like is done in forums.

Gmail has a wysiwyg text editor and you can even cut and paste formatted text-- of course there are some limitations, but I've cut and paste code before and it's usually fine.
