How do you disable this icon?
control panel --> network and internet connections --> network connections --> right click on the offending icon --> properties --> uncheck both notification options at the bottom --> restart computer --> icon comes back up :(

This icon is useful: it displays a variable component of your computer based on whether there is or is not a current connection.
If you NEVER use this, you could try disabling the driver or "uninstalling" the device, and that would simply mean it would never show up (and wouldn't work). If you use it sometimes, it may be a necessary inconvenience.
If you want to try to hack it manually, you might be able to delete/replace the icon for it somewhere in your system folder.
There also might be some way to only display the icon if it is connected, but I have no idea about that.

I have a wireless internet connection that is rather fast and never use a cable. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Yes, I guessed that was the case. I do the same, and if there's an easy way to turn off the other icon, that might be nice to know. I don't want to permanently disable it because I occasionally use the cable (like at a hotel, perhaps).

I shut down all my computers, and unplugged the DSL modem and router. I waited a few minutes and then plugged in the modem, followed by the router. Once both of those were fully booted, I turned my computers back on. Still, there is no connection for the problem in PC.

Sorry, but your post smith3134 is unrelated to the thread and is neither a solution or a question. I nominate it for deletion. Feel free to edit this post of mine as well moderators.
Getting back to the topic. I found the solution to this problem. Start --> Control Panel --> Network Connections --> select the offending connection --> Select Disable this network device. Problem solved.
When I did this it also said that my wireless network was not operating as well even though it was. This disabled icon persisted after a restart as well. To fix this I disabled the wireless connection and then enabled it. This fixed that problem. After a restart the "a network cable is unplugged notification" icon did not come back after a restart.
Problem Solved.
As this is an "old" thread would a moderator please edit this thread to "resolved"?
Thanks
There is a suggestion that often comes up to use regedit to delete a key, but at best this seems to remove all of the notification icons, which I doubt many people really want.
