Underline issue IE 7

Hi Guys,

can you help in this.

i wrote like this ..

<a href="#">The National <span>Conversation</span></a>

in FF it showing underline for the full text(The National Conversation)..but in IE 7
it showing underline for the The National..please give suggestion on this issue...it's little bit urgent to me.
