How to fix corrupted FireFTP account information?
I just exported all my FireFTP account info to install on another machine. It asked for a password. I did not know why so i did not enter one. I imported exported file on other machine again using no password. Both FireFTP installations hosed. FireFTP dysfunctional. I tried an uninstall and reinstall with no improvement. EEK!!! PLEASE HELP!!! http://www.dynamicdrive.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif

I had all the passwords for each account—for each site on each server —and now some are lost—but this was not that. A password was requested on the operation of exporting data—and on the operation of importing data.
I do have firefox—it seems more an issue of the files have been corrupted so that I no longer have the permission rights to upload the that server—and that applied to all the diffe3rent servers.
the files did something pecuiar—i was trying to overwrite an outdated site index file and I got a very peculiar error message—especially the syntax of the file name—

553 Could not create file.
: /./htdocs/index.html

it’s the ”:/./” that got me—like it was trying to access the root of the server but it was the same file I had always uploaded.

Also, I tried to join yesterday, on the originalr machine, the one I exported from, but that machine wouldn't show any Capcha grafx. That machine also got an enormous warning from Avast! that my whole machine had been corrupted and sent a possibly evil file that had the word "tablet" in it home to Alwil saying a complete scan was necessary NOW! Then rubotted came on saying I had been botted. And this was all around the same time I tried to export these FireFTP files and just after I tried to get theme icons from Microsoft with Extreme Picture Finder and only got tons of wrong stuff which I dumped. I don't know if any of this crap has any bearing or not so I include it just in case.

What is the problem? Reinstall FireFTP and insert your accounts again. Did you not store your passwords somewhere else? Do you not have access to the hosting accounts to reset them?

This sounds annoying and time consuming but doesn't seem like something that can't be solved.

I have reinstalled it a few times. On one machine the corruption still exists. On another machine, I am rebuilding but am having a problem with NetSol. It is possible that I screwed up firefoxFTP just because something was wrong with netsol account. And in that same time I got a notice from RUbotted that I was botted and NetSol sent me notice suspending a seller's account [which I never opened] on LinkTogether for some unknown misbehaviour. I haven't been on that site in months and am not even sure I can get in. I am still trying to figure out where all the problems are. After repeated tries with NetSol I am now unable to login at all ... it just keeps getting worse. And same is happening on other accounts on the machine supposedly 'botted' -- other machine still has the hashed FireFTP -- possibly from stuff I copied from first machine that persisted through 2 reinstalls of FireFTP. Don't know which end is up.

Will try again. Hope this is set to suscribe.

Try it on the original computer but make a new FireFox profile. Only install the FTP program and test. Then add all your other add-ons one at a time until everything is the same as your default profile.

If it still continues make a new user for yourself on the computer and just use that-- there might be a profile file floating somewhere that is the problem. Or you could try to find that, but it might be extremely difficult.

Thanks to both of you. While I was waiting to hear I tried pretty much what you suggested and I began to have some success. Now I know I'm going in the right direction! :-) -- how to stick those smiley/frowny things in. I really wanted to fill the bottom of my first post with "eek"s
