Put a :) on my face. That final punch line was a bit obvious, but the buildup to it made it work as far as humor goes. The Ruby stuff was lost on me (not a Ruby person yet). That all said, I was unaware of the other odd behaviors pointed out for javascript. So not only was it funny, it was also educational.

Labyrinth in 30 seconds...

Imaginative teenage girl is pee'd off about being left to babysit while parents go to a party

Jareth, the Goblin King (bloke in traq's pic), and overlord of a bizarre fantasy world, offers the girl her freedom in exchange for her brother

Girl says no, but Jareth kidnaps baby brother anyway and hides him in the middle of his Goblin City - he wants to raise him as his own son

Girl has to work her way through a labyrinth to win back baby brother - making strange friends (Ludo is so cute!) completing challenges, and avoiding ostacles, like The Bog of Eternal Stench, along the way

Girl gets to center of Labyrinth with the help of her new friends, which angers Jareth - she's smarter than he initially thought

Face-off between Girl and Jareth - girl realises that she controls her own imagination/destiny and utters those deal-breaker words... "You have no power over me!"

The spell is broken - clocks chiming, fantasy world crumbles, Goblin City in ruins - and the Girl and baby are both returned home

Parents return from party to find baby brother back in his cot, and the Girl is much more appreciative of him

It's a very good film! Keebs should try and rent it :)

Though I think I've seen "Labyrinth", I'm not certain. If I have, and it's what I'm recalling, I think "Pan's Labyrinth" is better. It's more recent and has a little more depth to it.

traq
03-05-2013, 05:33 AM
The two aren't related. Labyrinth (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091369/), for example, has muppets.

Beverleyh
03-05-2013, 06:44 AM
Labyrinth is more for kids, although there are plenty of adult undertones, not to mention David Bowie's obscenely tight trousers. I suppose its like a coming if age story - 15 year old girl being offered her dreams by seductive older man who wants to take her as his queen. Of course you don't see that when you're 8 (when I first watched it) but thinking about it now, there are definitely some adult themes running through it.

jscheuer1
03-05-2013, 08:09 AM
Has David Bowie ever "come of age"?

Kidding aside, yes they are two different films, yet more similar to each other than to many other films.

I was serious about that - I'm actually working on my logout class right now
Seriously Can u explain that project ?

I got a new funny idea that is,
Ask password before log out.
If password is incorrect undone all last transactions, if password is true commit all..
Whether the password is correct or incorrect display the log out button.

traq
04-24-2013, 07:46 PM
The logout button won't be displayed - but if someone triggers the logout by URL, and they're not logged in, it will show an error message like the one above and ask for their username/password. Just an "easter egg," if you will. And I'm not sure it will make it to any non-personal sites.

I know this is a little late on the Labyrinth theme, and might not be all that funny or geeky, but bear with me:

http://home.comcast.net/~jscheuer1/side/images/labyrinthposter.jpg

What's funny is how I found it. I was searching for images using these terms:

"tree nut shells"

Beverleyh
05-09-2013, 09:02 PM
"Tree nut shells"? How bizarre.

The way I see it, there's only one word in there that could possibly relate to the film, and that puts us back in the region of David Bowie's trousers. Ha, ha

jscheuer1
05-10-2013, 12:27 AM
In "fairness" to Google Images and David's package, I think it was just a case of Google thinking they knew better than I did what I was looking for. Like:

Are you sure you didn't mean "nut cases"?

And there were a lot of walnuts, black walnuts, pecans, almonds, pistachios, etc., even a lot of their shells. I just didn't find the one I was looking for. I'm not even certain it's a tree nut shell. It just turned up in my yard and I was wondering where it was from.

djr33
05-10-2013, 12:40 AM
Are you sure it isn't from the magical land of Labyrinth? Perhaps Google was trying to be helpful in that way :p

(Alternatively, I would almost believe that the image came up as an image match for "nut tree", given that it's brown and has things at the edges that are round. I wonder if Google images is now automating image searches to come up with "matches" like that!)

jscheuer1
05-10-2013, 12:54 AM
I doubt it. Here's another anomalous image I got back:

5054

Are you sure you didn't mean "bombshell"?

Like an automated colour sampling thing? Hmmm, interesting.

That actually makes sense - in school we have a filtering system on email that picks out flesh tones in attached images. If it finds too much "skin", it quarantines them for investigation.

Don't ask me how it does it, but it's really annoying for our photography students who are only trying to send their ligitimate close-up portraits to lecturers.

Are you sure you didn't mean "bombshell"? :confused:Auto-colour-sampling could hold true for this pic too - sandy beach, white "shell"?

I like the idea of Google suggesting "bombshell" better though. ha, ha

djr33
05-10-2013, 03:47 PM
Haha. Well, I don't know exactly what Google is doing at this point except that you can "search by image" and it will find visually similar images. I wouldn't be surprised if it integrates that into the normal search now.

Also, sometimes their first updates are really bad-- just look at the "alpha" languages on Google translate. But the point is to gather more data, and then fairly soon it becomes a lot more reasonable. Maybe right now they're working out the details of the algorithms.

jscheuer1
05-10-2013, 05:22 PM
This is the lounge and is supposed to be funny, so I let it drag out a bit and acted a contrarian role. I actually know why those images came up, and you should too if you search Google Images for those terms:

tree nut shells

Still it might be hard to figure out. Those seemingly anomalous images were on pages that also had a heading or similar that contained the words:

In a Nutshell

or similar. So I can see how it happened. To Google Image's credit they were near the end of the page which was mostly filled with much more relevant image results.

It still isn't what I asked for though and is still an example (though a much less stark example) of Google thinking it knows what you want better than you do.

Beverleyh
05-10-2013, 05:28 PM
Yes - it made more sense when I got on a desktop computer ;)

I did the basic search last night on iPhone where you cant easily check file names and/or follow linked images - the grid-like image gallery format is more restricted in that sense, although it loads much faster than it once did.
