Hi

does anyone know of a html poll script that I can use on my website

http://www.animalcorner.co.uk

I tried a poll from Add Free Stats but then discovered before I uploaded it fortunately, that some unsavory pics were in the ads that came with it. My site is for kids so that kind of stuff is not acceptable! So if anyone knows of a basic customizable html script that I can do an animal poll with, please let me know.

Kind regards

Mandy  :(

You won't be able to with HTML. You can with javascript but it's an accessibility issue. My recommendation would be PHP (http://hudzilla.org/phpbook/read.php/22_1_0) .

I have a pretty simple cgi poll script that works well. If you are not familuar with pearl scripts i could set it up for you.

I also am in need of a poll - the more simple the better as resources are limited as far as mySQL is concerned. A simple CGI script would be of great benefit if you're willing to share.

Does anyone know of a way to include a poll in a newsletter? I'm trying to figure out how that can be done...

1. Javascript will not work for polls. You need PHP or another SERVER side language, so you can store data-- on the SERVER.

2. Databases are your friend. This is a perfect situation for a mysql/php setup.

see: http://php-mysql-tutorial.com

3. For a newsletter.... uh.... link back to the page? You're going to have to do a LOT to actually send a poll in the email.
Email is just plain text, so you can't really do it.
However, there are ways to send html, but they are complex and don't work for all mail hosts.
Assuming you get it to work, then your best bet would be to send a html form that sends them to your site to vote. (The action of the form: action="http://yoursite.com/pollvote.php")

Thanks for that, much appreciated. The html newsletter is no problem, part of my database does get the newsletter in html format, and for the text-only ones there simply won't be a poll. Therefore the html form that sends the form action to my site would be the way to go.

But then, creating a custom script is nothing I'm able to do, so I guess I will just go with the external solution that I just found: http://www.free-website-polls.com/. Already tried and it works. Unless you have a simple solution to do this myself...

Look at the link above.

MySQL and PHP really are the way to go for polls.

The logic is easy. The coding isn't all that hard... mostly math.

I wrote a poll for myself the other day. (No, sorry, I can't give you that script... it's embedded withing another system for a complex site, so wouldn't do anything as a standalone.)

If not, then, sure, go with a free service like that.

I just checked out the Free Website Polls site, it looks simple and seems to work.

Thanks for posting. Although I would prefer to have someothing that is not branded if anyone has any other suggestions.
