Triggered pop-up

I hadn't opened a new page and all open pages are all bookmarked pages I know but some how this opened itself on my computer. I know how to close it just wondering if anyone else has experianced this or knows how it could be done. I was in my web browser on a common page, didn't click any icons.

This was the page that loaded:

If you are using IE, or even if you are not but the pop up is in IE, it could be a trojan. Anti-virus sites are favorites for this type of attack as it is also an attack on the site's bandwidth. If it is a trojan, more and more frequent pop ups will follow. If you have up to date anti-virus anti-trojan software(s) running, it could be a new trojan. I got one of these years back, and none of the current software - all up to date, could deal with it. I had to wipe my disk and start over.

Then again, it could just be a pop up generated by one of the sites. If the site has a cert it can do that. MLB.com for instance has (or at least had during the season) a cert and popped under a Netflix ad. If you try each site one at a time, it should become clear which one it is. Close all browsers. Open the one you use to a blank page. Clear all cookies. Try each site in turn. If you get the pop up, close the browser, open it again and remove all cookies, open that site again, if it pops up again, it is probably a cert from that site.

Sounds like some sort of spyware, etc., and there really is, in my opinion, no way to fix that entirely. Live with it, and maybe try to minimize the symptoms, but the only real fix will be reformatting. That's the pain of windows (and why I enjoy using Macs... regardless of better security, there are few viruses for them). On windows, though, it's rare to last too long without at least a few issues.
Certainly you can live with this stuff to some extent, but it's never a bad idea to reformat every once in a while anyway. It's a hassle, but will keep everything running faster, too.
