is it possible for JavaScript to show an error on top of the page if there has been an error during a php script?

like telling them that their email and password is wrong, or that you cant sign up again.

and it only shows for about 5 seconds, and then it slides back to the top?

If you are referring to an input form then you can definitely incorporate javascript field validation into it, even in PHP.

I do this regularly but only using the standard javascript alert box, however I have seen quite a few javascript 'alert box' replacement scripts that may be able to do what you want. Do a search on the web for these
