There's just one thing that I'm really tired of, the "omfg you have to click "start" to turn it off wtf!!?! we're all gonna die!" joke/whatever this is. Seriously people, any action, pretty much anything, has a beginning (remember Churchill?) so stop it with the start button. If I want to shut down my computer, I need to "start doing it" and I do that by clicking the start button.

Too bad the Vista designers gave in on the criticism (I'm hoping it was for design purposes only, doubt it though) and removed the start button. I can imagine the discussion:

Hey Bill, people are complaining about the start button, apparently it's confusing that you have to start shutting down your computer.
Oh no, we're screwed! Any ideas?
Well, I heard that the sane thing is to click a fruit to shut down your computer.
Yeah, that does make more sense, can we do that?
No, Steve has dibs on the fruit.

http://www.mojaveexperiment.com/Well, I got through to the HTML version, but after clicking one of the little people or any of the internal links in the sidebar except 'consider the facts' and 'what is the Mojave experiment?' it just loads for eternity.

Based on what I've seen there, basically they took a bunch of end-users with little or no knowledge about operating systems and gave them a version of Vista re-themed and presumably configured to remove most of the crud, and let them use it for a few minutes, presumably just to do end-user stuff like browsing the Web or checking their emails, and handily avoiding making them have to perform any system administration or maintenance whatsoever or otherwise see what it becomes in the long-term.

I haven't seen the videos, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, I think that it said that they gave them a preview of Windows Vista, and if they made it better for just them, they shoulda put it in the public. Eh, I think they showed them the regular version. Then again, Microsoft may be lying.... Nah! ;)
