Hi guys

I have been using an old script called MOF or Merchant OrderForm and I was trying to update to the latest version but the merchantorderform.com site is no longer functioning. I have also tried to contact the author with no result.

Can I ask if anyone has the latest version and since it is abandoned send me a link to get a copy please or alternatively if you have a contact to the author send that to me and I will happily pay for it.

If that is not possible maybe you can suggest an alternative. MOF was good as all it did was allow me to add in a quick bit of code on standard html pages and create an online invoice for the client to then pay for. It was not a full shopping cart system with a catalogue, client database, product database, shipping etc it was simple and elegant.

I hope someone can help me find the latest MOF or find out what happened to MOF...

Cheers

I have the latest version of Merchant Order Form. Do not know what happend to the developer but would like to know. He just suddenly shut down his websites and disappeared. He was always great about helping me with issues and I'd hate to try to replace my carts. I'm not sure how to help you get the latest version I have.

I also have the same problem. I'm a legal owner of merchant orderform v2.4 and wanted to do an update to the latest version 2.5 when starting a new online project.

I downloaded the help file for v2.5 as soon as it was released but did not download the program files at that point. What a big mistake now that the company seems to be out of business.

Since I definitely will be going on to use mofcart it would be great if someone could send me the install102103.zip file (at least it was named this way according to the help file of v2.5) so that I can update my version. My email address can be found in my profile.

I would be more than willing to help with mofcart problems in return. I'm using this shopping system for many years now and I'm therefore definitely experienced with it.

Thanks for all the help on this forum. It only took a week to receive the installation file I needed. I therefore now removed my email address from my public profile in order to be safe from spam bots.

Thanks again ;)

Hello PerlScripter,

I am in a similar situaion to you: trying to find a copy of Merchant OrderForm, but unable to since the author cannot be contacted and the program cannot be downloladed. Could you send me a copy of v2.5 (and the help file too)? Like you, I would be willing to pay the author for it, but he cannot be contacted and the program website is gone.

I added my email address to my public profile for you to email it to me. Thanks in advance.

I'm glad I found this thread. It's nice to see that there are a few people still out there using MOFcart. Do any of you happen to have any of the developer files for v2.4? Specifically, I'm looking for the MOF MySQL Plugin Utility which I believe is just the mofsqldb.pl file. I still have three sites using it. If not, would take the files for v2.5 if someone wanted to send them my way. You can e-mail it to rexranius@gmail.com or point me in the right direction. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I'd like to add to this. I've had MOF cart for a while, a registered user of 2.4.

Does anyone have the "mofsavedb.pl" plug-in to save flatfile database files? If so, I love to hear from you. You can email me directly at mark@airbornemedia.com.

Thanks.

Great fan of MOF - Russell produced what is still one of the most flexible shopping carts I`ve ever seen - Very helpful too, but I guess the returns on sales and support time meant he had to call it a day... Shame, but I wish him luck.

Does anyone have the "mofsavedb.pl"

On it's way...

Anyone need anything else?

Hey it is great to find some felow users of Merchant OrderForm. I, too, am a registered user of Merchant OrderForm 2.4. Although I never installed it over 1.54. 1.54 works well and I never really had a need for more. But now, it seems, I may need to update but since I found you guys maybe I can update to 2.5. Does anyone have the full cart in 2.5 and be willing to send it to me? -alanc@teradata.com-(my day job) And, by the way, noone knows where Russell went? No goodbye, nothing? He was very helpfull and patient with neophytes like me. Also, Is there anyone out there that knows this cart well enough to modify it or customize it from time to time for special needs?

We've been using MOF 2.5 for a few years now and Russel was a big help in doing some custom configuration on it. In the meantime we need to move our site to a new server/host company and, although I've managed to find the original installation files, I'd rather not have to reinvent the wheel with the customizations.

So, we're looking for someone familiar with MOF who can help with the move and changing the server specific data, without doing a fresh install. If anybody's interested, you an contact me through the email in my profile.

Hello All,

I'm brand new here, and I am glad to see that I am not the only one left in the lurch when Russell shut down!

I've got the v2.5 package, and I'll be happy to send it to anyone who needs it. What I don't have are the docs for v2.5! My understanding is that a pdf of the docs exists, but I never downloaded it. If anyone can help me out, please email or PM me: rbence_AT_zoomnet_DOT_com

Thanks

The V2.5 docs have an excellent .chm document - every bit as good as a pdf in my opinion.

I have never seen a pdf version though...

If you would like the chm let me know and I'll send you a copy.

(works OK on Win 7 by the way)

Holly Smokes ! I have been looking for the support docs for MofCart 2.5 for years. I actually purchased v2.5 (I have the script files) and a day later when I went to download the CHM doc files, the website / email / and everything was gone. Talk about fly-by-night!! I've been a user of 2.4 since 2002, so I know my way around a little bit, but I've always wanted the actual support docs.

So I'm asking you guys on bended knee:

If someone could email me these docs, that would be terrific!!

Dave, Thanks for responding, and sorry for the hassle. Please check your email for new address.

NOTE to others - I didn't realize this: gmail (and other email systems) may have a problem with sending CHM files - they are considered a security risk since they can contain embedded code objects. Even if the files are zipped or RAR'ed the Google system opens them up and checks file extensions. The usual data mining practices.

The solution is to use another email acct., or zip the files together in a password-protected zip/rar file. Or change the name of the file to something like filename.chm.txt and zip that into a email-friendly file.

Thanks again for your help Dave!! I'll look for those files at the other account, when you have a chance.

Hey Dave,
Perhaps you'd be able to help me out. I've been using Merchant Order Form 1.5 on my website for over ten years. Over the years, the cart has gone down usually due to the fact that my servers have shifted something somewhere. Usually, they are able to get it back up and running, but often not without headaches. Would upgrading to the v2.5 possibly stop this from happening? In other words, is it worth it to do an upgrade or would I be better off getting a new shopping cart installed? Also, some folks browsers have trouble reading the 1.5. I've had folks tell me they are getting error messages when the cart is up and running...and last but not least, do you do this type of work on the side for hire? My website is www.cinefear.com .

I've been watching this thread for a while. I'm a long time MOF user and started with 1.4 then 2.4 and finally 2.5. Over the years Russ has been great helping me with custom code and fixes. It was with some dismay I went to check some docs online at the MOF site and found it gone. I tried emailing Russ but no response. He was always great getting back right away. He's disappeared. I see there are many other users here in the same boat. I have the install packages for all the versions above and some plug in code. I don't have the 2.5 docs, I would love to get them.
I was thinking of setting up a file sharing account and posting my versions of MOF here. If I could get the docs, I could host those as well. I'm wondering, I paid for all the versions I have and quite a bit of support to Russ. But, I understand MOF is still Russ's intellectual property and don't want to cause him or the moderators here any grief. Still I hate to see all his hard work go to waste and a community of like minded users that could continue to support the code would be great, this looks like a great place to do that. So, I'm inclined to go ahead and post a link to the scripts and if Russ sees it and has any objection I would trust he would chime in and I would pull it.
I see the docs were posted but pulled and offers of the script are offered through private email but not posted. Is that because it's a problem posting the script links? I thought I would ask before doing so.

Benteen

The link to which you refer is mine and for the reason in quotes I prefer to deliver the files to those who I believe have licenced copies the software.

It was a sad day when Russell disappeared - I have little doubt in my own mind that it was costing him more in support time than he ever made from sales - a great shame for him and the users.

However it does seem that there are still plenty of active users and I think some sort of user group or forum to pool knowledge would be of value.

Benteen please drop me an email and I'll be happy to reactivate the link for you.

Thanks Dave. I see you have all the files people are asking for as well and are a consistent and helpful presence here so hosting my files with the possible ownership issues is probably not necessary.

I agree, having a central place to exchange scripts and help would be great. Right now I'm interesting in modifying the Authnet script as they soon will require support for gift cards, something currently not in Russ's script.

Thanks for the offer of the docs, I'll PM you.

Thanks Dave for the docs. I hope this thread will stay alive and will serve as a place to continue Russ's script. I'll post the results of my Authnet mod and if anyone else has any ideas I hope they will be posted here.

Hi,
I've been following this thread & it appears to me that you are the MOF expert! I had MOF v2.5 installed on my site by (I think his name is) Russ in March of '08. Recently, my hosting company(webhost4life) had all it's sites migrated to a new platform & since then my shopping cart stopped working. An error occurs if you go to sequels.com; then click on view items on the left side; then click on any item & then click 'add to cart'. The error also occurs when you try to 'view cart' at the top of the page.
I've tried the troubleshooting directions but to no avail. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you

On this occasion I'm afraid I won`t be of much help. According to the error message on your website you're hosted on a Microsoft-IIS/6.0... I only do Linux...

FYI, USPS changed their International Shipping API, and so if you are using the real time USPS shipping calculations with MOF / Merchant Order Form shopping cart, it is now broken.

Are there any Perl coders lurking out there that could help with making this work again?

I've edited mof.conf to use the new names that USPS is using, but it is not working.

Hey guys, can you help me out? I am helping my friend on their mofcart site - it stopped working.

I figured out that the problem was the absolute path, I think the host changed the site location on the server or something like that. I have all the absolute paths updated to the new ones, and I'm almost there, except for these errors in troubleshooting mode:

Empty Cart: /old-wrong-path/htdocs/cgi-bin/mcart/temp/ NOT Writeable or not Found, problem

Number File: /old-wrong-path/htdocs/cgi-bin/mcart/data/mofnumber.dat NOT Writeable or not Found, problem

Does anyone know where do I update the path to the empty cart and number file so they are correct? I searched the entire directory for references to the old path, but I can't find any. Maybe there's a config file or admin setting I don't know about?

Thanks :D

Ok, I thought I had everything working, and the cart/checkout is doing fine after the .conf file updates.

The last problem I have is that I can't log in to the MOF admin. It gives me a 500 Internal Server Error but I don't see anything in the cgi error logs. Is there anything related to changing the install path of this script that could cause a server error when trying to log in to the admin at

/admin/mofcc.cgi

or

/admin/uadmin.cgi

Here's an extract from a functioning /cgi-bin/mcart/common.conf file.
You don`t say whether you're operating under ssl

But I have had to change some paths on some installtions to accommodate different server mappings.

Maybe this will give you a steer - if not we may need to examine the /cgi-bin/mcart/lib/mof.conf file.

Thanks for posting that config file, it looks pretty similar to what is in my common.conf file which is located in /cgi-bin/mcart/common.conf

There are some funky differences, it looks like the person who set this up used the subdomain on the host instead of the actual domain in some spots. I tried to make it more like the sample you posted and there were https warnings.

Anyway, what is posted below is working for the cart right now. People can check out. The only problem is we can't log in to the admin, there is a server error. It's probably a path issue somewhere that I can't find.

This looks about right, and yes it could be a path issue, but you seem to have worked out where the path settings are set and may spot something peculiar to your server setup (which can be a bit strange with some of the more paranoid hosts) - servers used to be a lot more standardised when this app was written as I recall.

I'll have a think about other reasons why your'e getting the server errors, but don`t discount the possibility that someone has "incorrectly" modified one of the cgi files locally for some reason - which unless they documented the changes would be very difficult to spot. You know the sort of thing missing syntax etc..

If you suspect this may be the case it may be worth replacing certain files from /cgi-bin/mcart/copy - if only to eliminate the possibility of rogue .cgi files.

That's a really good suggestion and unfortunately there is no backup and no installation files anymore.

It probably would be easiest to just reinstall the core files but I can't find a 2.5 install package anywhere.

For an install package - Check the link in post #38 of this thread - but not for about an hour from the time of this post as I'll need to reactivate it...

Great, I'll give that a shot when it's ready. Thanks for helping out :)

Actually, no need... it was a funky htaccess that needed fixing, the script was doing ok. Thanks all the same :)

Sounds like it's a runner now... :)
