All a server is is a computer with special software to serve things to end users on a network. This could be anything from SQL to Web servers or File to DNS servers. This is just a basic answer, but if you want more details, ask a more detailed question.

This is very true and I am glad that you added that. As an example of this, Apache (http://httpd.apache.org/) is a web server and MySQL (http://dev.mysql.com) is a SQL server.

Okay. Thanks. I should have said so, but I mainly looking for what a computer server was. Didn't really get it...
