The idea is to make it as it is, a separate page. Most folks I have seen use this make it their index page. After it is done, it leads to home.htm or something like that to begin the actual site.

I don't understand very clearly what you are saying. Best thing is to set up a demo (it can be a non-working demo) somewhere live so I can see your work. Ala:
