Hi everyone!
I've been trying to install Ubuntu 8.04 on my 8GB USB drive using many guides, but using them I've only managed to get errors. Only once have I managed to get it installed but i got grub error 17 after trying to boot. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks.

Did you try to install it on C:\? How large is the file? Maybe there is something wrong with the code or it is too big for your USB.

i've been trying to install it to a usb drive to boot from. in the guides it says that ubuntu should only be 4GB. i didn't try installing it on the c drive(i tried last year, didn't know what i was doing, and i destroyed the hard drive)

It doesn't answer your question, but do you need grub? Syslinux for me was far easier to setup and it worked. Grub on an usb stick was a pain so i abandoned that install. Try hp usb format with syslinux or else ask ubuntu forum.

i need a few questions answered before i can give you a good explanation;
do you have access to a windows machine? The hp usb format tool only works on windows. do you need to install ubuntu or run a bootable cd. I ran a slax bootable cd. I don't know how hard it would be to do an install. If you will answer those two questions I can be more precise.
