I want to create a website with videos on it, I want them to play and be viewed in the same window (like how youtube does it I guess).

Is there a way to do this with html or xhtml? Am I going to have to use flash? I really don't know how to go about doing this so all your ideas are welcome.

Thanks!

Yes, you'll have to use Flash. Well, you could embed Quicktime or Windows Media into your page but that won't work for everyone and it's buggy.

Use the JW FLV Media Player (http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_FLV_Player). It supports a lot of formats and you don't need to learn ActionScript to use it.

Ok thank you for the reply medyman, but now my question is this:

Does this mean I need to have flash? Because I definitely cannot afford that...

I looked at the site you pointed me too, and it almost looks as if I don't need it but I can't really tell.

Thank your for your help.

EDIT:
Oh I forgot is, is there some kind of free flash?

Nope... You just have to download the .SWF file from JW's website. Everything is configurable from within the HTML (see flashvars (http://code.jeroenwijering.com/trac/wiki/FlashVars)). You don't need Flash to customize that particular player at all. At least, within the functions provided. If you want to increase its functionality, THEN you would need Flash.

No. There is the free 30-day trial that comes with most Adobe products. But otherwise, no.
