I'm currently using dreamhost, its cheap and it provides me with a lot of server space/bandwidth, mySQL, a free domain name for around $50 a year. However, dreamhst sucks with communication, upload speeds when I am out of the US really really sucks (I travel a lot), sometimes its not really reliable.
Is there any other webhost out there that can best dreamhost for a max budget $50?
Thanks,
John

I usually recommend Ipower. They own quite a few hosting properties, so you would definitely have choices. They're cheap too.

You may also want to look at Site5 (http://www.site5.com/). I've hosted with them before, and overall, a good quality host with some very affordable plans.

I always recommend Godaddy.com they have tons of extras and pretty low prices, plus great up time.

GoDaddy sucks... really they do.

Well, GoDaddy is first and foremost a domain registrar. Web hosting is simply a secondary part of their business. Personally I'd never register my domain and host my site at the same company- why not diversify I say.

I actually DO host AND register the domain via the same company... simply because the company I host through offers a pretty sweet deal on domain registration! LOL

anyone got input on site5 or bluehost?
I've had plenty of experience with both hosts over the past 5 years or so. Site5 used to be a decent host. I think they were a fairly small operation at their start, but have recently been bought out or merged or something with another company. Since then, up time and customer support have dropped dramatically! I don't recommend that you go with them.
Of course, they are VERY cheap. If 100% uptime and customer support isn't important to you (as it sometimes isn't...depends on the site), then it might be an option.
As far as Bluehost, I find them to be fairly satisfactory. It's a decent web host that provides a good hosting with a top-of-the-line control panel as well as helpful support for a reasonable price. As far as cheap hosts go, they're one of the best I've dealt with.
Let me say that I wouldn't personally host my site on either of these hosts. I've had clients over the years that have used (and still are in Bluehost's case) that use them. If anyone is interested, I usually use either EngineHosting (http://www.enginehosting.com/) or Media Temple (http://mediatemple.net/) (dv) (http://www.mediatemple.net/webhosting/dv/) for most sites. And for smaller clients, HostGator (http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml).
