Being totally new to PS, I was wondering if anyone knew a way to make rounded boxes (boxes with rounded corners)

I had looked for a "rounded rectangle tool" before posting my request, so I was not at all impressed with the posted reply. It was not helpful in the least. There IS no "rounded rectangle tool" in CS3.
I found the required proceedure (for CS3) from sources elsewhere, and then created the buttons and website at http://www.IsolationSciences.com
If anyone else is interested in the "proceedure", then I'll gladly be helpful and post it here.

The shapes tool has several options. One is a rectangle (the top option). Below that is the rounded rectangle tool. You can also press U twice.
You can change the radius of this rectangle (for its corners) in the options menu near the top.
Please realize that, even if a post was incorrect (not that it was), generally people replying are trying to be helpful.

I agree that people replying are "generally" trying to be helpful, however, with all the many areas in CS3 where one can find the umpteen tools available, that user could have been more specific by saying where one could find such a tool.
I ended up using the rectangle tool, and then under "Select" I chose "Modify" and that was where I could change the radius of the corners.
When I first posted, I had found the rectangle tool, but there was no "rounded" rectangle to be found.
I thank you for your patience though. You're a moderator whose heart is in the right place.

In that case, I'd suggest you check out that holding down the mouse over any of the tools will reveal other, similar tools. That's where you find the rounded rectangle.
Remember, sometimes it's difficult to know how much someone already knows when posting an answer. You didn't get enough information, but someone else might be bothered by having all of the steps posted to finding the "rounded rectangle" tool.
Anyway, glad your problem is solved.

I thought I had made it clear enough how new to PS I was. Even until your last post, I thought that the rectangular marquee tool was the one for making rectangles then using edit stroke or fill etc.. Under that tool, there was no rounded rectangle, but using "Select/Modify" one can make the rectangle rounded
Looking further down the tool list, I came to find the rectangle tool that you mentioned. Yes, the rounded one is there.
If I were assisting anyone with this issue, I'd have said it's the 2nd tool down from the Text tool. I wasn't looking past the first rectangle I saw (near the top).
In any case, all is well, I've made the buttons and the entire website http://www.IsolationSciences.com according to how the scientist Dr. Chuck Akers wanted it. ...I would have made it vastly different if it was up to me, but he got what he wanted, and I also exceeded his expectations.
No harm done, just if anyone should help anyone in future, one should assume nothing and read the question carefully - "totally new" is not ambiguous.
Take care and thank YOU for your help. That was was WAY easier than the method I used.

Sorry I didn't get to your post in time. I can totally understand what it's like to be completely new at Photoshop. Many of us use Photoshop so often we forget that people who are new to it don't know how to work the software.
I would have attached a tutorial-like image to be honest, so it would have been easier for you to spot the tool. :) If you need any help in the future don't hesitate to PM me.:)

Well, I already did what I needed to do using Photoshop CS3 (my original problem).
It wasn't HTML or CSS coding that I was looking for, but these will come in handy somewhere down the line.
Even though you missed the essence of my original question, and also my following responses, you still provided me with some really useful info for future projects.
Thank you

I'm aware that you're finished, but, just so you know...
At the bottom of the toolbox there is a SHAPE tool. (it might look like a square, a star, a circle, a line or something). RIGHT-click the icon and choose 'Rounded Rectangle Tool.'
