Hey, I have an issue with 2 computers.. weird but I am out of ideas..

First I have a standard tower with one HDD installed and on it Windows XP. This computer USED to have two HDDs with two separate installs of XP. Ever since I have removed the second HDD I can't get rid of the boot option. When I reboot the computer I always get taken to the choose screen and I have to pick which XP to boot. I have gone into set up and removed the second HDD instance, turned off all others and reset the bios. The boot option screen still appears.

Is this a fixMBR/fixBoot problem or do I need to physically reset the BIOS jumper?

Second issue is another computer. This computer was set up with Linux on one HDD. I added a second HDD with Windows XP, installed GRUB, added the Windows and everything works fine up to then. I can start the computer and enter GRUB, I can select the Linux option and it boots into Linux and all is well (it's where I am right now). If I select the Windows option it boots to Windows, where I get the XP loading splash screen and then the BSOD. Every time.

I have taken the HDD with Windows out, put into another computer and it boots fine. So the issue isn't with the HDD, and it's not with GRUB, so it has to be some other issue. Now the computer itself was designed to run a Linux OS (came with no OS installed). But I am at a loss as to why it won't boot up the Windows drive. Everything seems to check out.

Ideas?

first case what does your boot.ini say. Timeout and default?
Second case, grub is a pointer to boot.ini isn't it? So if your boot.ini doesn't point to something like this:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft XP Professional" /fastdetect it cannot find the references in your register. And the disk rdisk partition should will be the problem. Certainly the partition part.

BTW, welcome back. Now we have two experts with the evil flash knowledge.

Did you install Windows on the hard drive before transferring it?

Yes Windows was installed prior to transfer to the 2 HDD computer. I tried installing it directly on the computer, but got the BSOD then as well. Thought it may be the disk, but no, it's something with the computer... I dunno...
