Is there a special add-on or an application, possibly web based, that I could use to co-browse websites with my friend? So that I could see the contents of my friends screen, when he's surfing the web.

If you are both using Windows XP, and possibly other Windows OS's, you can probably use the:
Remote Assistance
application to do this. I've never bothered with it, but you can find tons of info:

There's also VNC viewers and servers such as Real VNC, Ultra VNC, and WinVNC to name a few. I personally use Ultra VNC both at home and at work. You can find more about it at the following website:
http://www.uvnc.com.
Hope this helps.

Well, at first I would have recommended the VNC and other similar remote control software, but if it's just the browser screen sharing you want, then why don't you try Screen2.com (http://www.screen2.com/). It's simple and web-based.
