could not use new fonts after reformatting

I have reformatted my PC and reinstalled new chinese fonts.
Microsoft Word document and Adobe Photoshop could not identify the new fonts. Some appeared as ??? in the "type of font" and most just did not show up at all.
It worked fine before the reformatting.

Would appreciate if someone could help me on this.

by installed meaning you put them in the correct folder?

what os are you using and where did you put them?

I changed the language from "english" to "chinese" in the following folder and now the problem is resolved:
[Control Panel -> Language Option -> Regional and Language Option -> Advanced]

But I still could not type chinese character in Google and online sites. (I have already rebooted my PC)

It works fine on MSN and WORD document.

The OS I use is Windows XP.
Would appreciate if someone could advise. Thank you.

Edited : problem is now resolved after I reset IE7
