View Full Version : Would using a template make my artwork not under my copyright?

I downloaded a few templates from freecsstemplates.org and with nearly all of them came a text file talking about 'Creative Commons'. I don't really understand it all but I had the question: If I use this template and alter it, as I understand I am allowed to do, will my artwork and other images suddenly become 'public domain'?

I would not want people to think they could make tubes or whatever or use my artwork images for whatever, you know?

Would I still have to credit freecsstemplates if I just learned from the coding and made my own page? That is really what I downloaded the templates for because I was working with this tutorial and was trying to create my page by editing and using the tutorial and I did not know how to do those fancy text boxes or columns or whatever. I tried using a p.whatever example and did not think that was the right way to do it so I wanted to understand what was the right way since the tutorial did not explain any of that.

Any good CSS web page books? I want titles and authors so I can ask my library about them.

And what is the simplest way to make a graphic look like it is layering over another box?

Thank You,

:-)

Creative Commons applies to (in this case) the template, not the content. If you alter the template, and thus come up with a new template, that new template is in the public domain, yes. But your content is still under copyright to the full extent of copyright law.

I say, 'in this case', because it can apply to whatever the thing is. If it were a program, it would apply to the program. For instance, I use a web based Flash program that is Creative Commons. It displays videos. The videos are still copyright of their respective copyright holders.

Yeah, the way you say it it does make sense. But, it is one of those things you have to ask and think about these days.

Thank you for replying.
