1) Script Title: Thumbnail viewer 2

2) Script URL (on DD): http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/thumbnail2.htm

3) Describe problem: I have created a page with images on and I have used this script to view enlarged versions. When I try and view the images it links them to the larger image but on a separate page. How do I get it to load in the loadarea? How do I define the load area?

Please help

As explained on the demo page. Really though, if you follow all of the instructions on the demo page it will work just fine in 99.99% of cases. The fact that it is not working for you doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the load area, though it could. To help, we would need a link to your page:

Please post a link to the page on your site that contains the problematic code so we can check it out.

Thanks for replying this is the link to my site: http://www.alwaysinviting.co.za/photoshow.htm

I made the thumbnails using frontpage autothumbnail, they are saved in:
www.alwaysinviting.co.za/test/pic6_small.jpg

The original large image is saved in: www.alwaysinviting.co.za/photogallery/pic6.jpg

I don't know if making them thumbnails using frontpage is a problem? I downloaded the file: thumbnailviewer2.js and it saved it on my C:/. I don't know if I'm supposed to then put it into my webpage? and if so where? So used the autothumbnail instead.

Sorry total novice!!

The images are good. The loadarea looks fine too. You need to upload the script to the server to this location:

http://www.alwaysinviting.co.za/thumbnailviewer2.js

It can be found here:

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/thumbnailviewer2.js

as well as from the link to it on the demo page.

Hi John,

Please could you help. I uploaded the thumbnail viewer, and everything now works. But how do I get the large images to open the same size as the loadarea - they are opening very large? Must I save them the size I want them to appear? Which brings up the next problem - when I try to add more pics to the html it will show me the thumbnail but it says the large image is not where I say it is, but it is saved in the same folder as the images that do work? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Please don't start a new thread about the same issue that you already have one thread open for.

Yes, resize your images to the size that you want them to be. Images not showing up on the server means that they are either not there, or that the paths and/or filenames are not accurate.

It looks like there are additional larger images are in the folder for your two larger images that you already had, but there do not appear to be any additional thumbnail images in the folder where the two thumbnail images from your demo page are. And you haven't updated your demo page on the server to use any additional images, so I'm not sure what the problem is on that page.

On this page:

http://www.alwaysinviting.co.za/weddingstationery.htm

It looks like you have all the required images, but no script.

Sorry, thought it may be a different thread. Will remember for future.
When I publish the page it it works - but when I view it in Frontpage it doesn't. Shows me all the original images but not the ones I've added -

You can see the updated page at: http://www.alwaysinviting.co.za/photoshow.htm

Thanks again for your help
Sam

Looks good, but as I guess you know, some of the larger images still need to be resized. Just a tip - as well as resizing them, look into optimizing them to their 'smallest possible byte size while still looking good' too. Most good image editing programs (PSP, PhotoShop, The Gimp, probably others) allow you to do this, and there are other ways, including free online image optimizers, and stand alone programs for image optimization.

I wouldn't worry about FP not displaying your local page properly, it doesn't handle scripts well at all. Use a browser to preview the local page.
