Script: CSS Horizontal Hover Menu

Dear Dynamic Drive Forum Members:
I am trying to make the menu items vertical (which would contradict the script name). Is there any easy way to do that? Simply adding a <br> to the various <li>'s did not seem to work - it gave the menu buttons a downward step-like appearance.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I segregated the script into an external javascript file, and am using document.write() on the various <li>'s. Please let me know if any advice would require me to re-incorporate the script into the HTML page.
