I just tried to add in the 'matrix text effect' and i got it to work but everything that was supposed to be an onload event didn't work. How do i fix this?

heh heh - sorry. Basically I have a bunch of things that i am testing out on a separate page before i put them into my actual portfolio website. These things include a clock in the upper right hand corner, a browser 'earthquake', a trembling message, and a bouncy message. (all the scripts for these are from dynamic drive) I can get them to work together, but when i added the matrix effect none of them were working. I think it may have something to do with another onload script inside the matrix effect, but i didn't see anything that i recognized...
i hope that helps...

I think your assumption is right that it has something to with an inconsistency with all the javascript that you have on a page.
Without commenting on the actual problem (as I'm no JS expert), let me offer you some friendly advice. Don't use all those effects! While they are're interesting effects and might have some uses in some context, for any real and/or professional use, I don't see how they can.
From a usability standpoint, they're just plain annoying. Barring the clock script, perhaps you could use one of those in a tasteful way to add some extra "pizazz" to your website, but in unison it's going to have a very amateurish feel.
Just my 2 cents...think of it what you will. You might also try posting in the "Dynamic Drive scripts help" forum since you're not really requesting a new script but troubleshooting existing DD scripts.

Good point. I'm thinking about using only the earthquake and maybe the clock for my actual website... right now i'm just testing out different things, like i mentioned before...
and i guess i didn't know there was a specific forum for help on scripts - i'm new to this whole thing and i haven't looked around much. so thanks for that info...
