White Space Issue

I have been set with the task to create my schools website but I am having issues with a menu div I made.

right under the menu is some whitespace that I want to get rid of, I spend hours today trying to get it to work right with no success.

Can anyone help me?

I moved the bar down and now the space is at the top, I also blended it in with the bar but I would still like it gone.
