I just setup my first flash website, and I'm having a bit of trouble. I got a template from 5sec.com. It has a preview html file to let you preview what it's going to look like when you have it up. It has a separate folder for the text files. I uploaded it to several different host sites and I get the same problem. See when I preview it, everything works fine, but when I upload it and click a link within the flash, the animation appears but the page never changes. I have my text files in a separate folder just like I'm supposed to. I emailed them about this problem a week or so ago and still no reply so I was wondering if anyone can help me out. Thanks.

In order to be able to help you out, we will need a link to your problem page.

2 things...

First: What is the structure of your swf in relation to the folder with the text files in them?

Second: What is the code being used to attach the text files to the text field? I assume this part is correct as the first page does appear, but to be sure...

Well see, I didn't make it. It's just a template. This is the first time I've ever done anything flash related, I usually stick to HTML and CSS but I figured I would test it out. In the instructions it says all you have to do is upload the swf and the index.htm file to the main part of the website and all the text files go in a subfolder called "txt." I did that and it works but the links don't work correctly. Everything works fine in the preview but when I upload it to the site it's not working. I didn't have to put any codes in when I uploaded, it did that itself. All I did was upload the files, which was all the readme said I had to do, so I don't really know :(.

Hmmm.... you may need to CHMOD your txtfolder to be executable, try CHMOD 755 on it and see what happens?

Sometimes those free accounts put strange limits on directories, also.. if the script inside is using php to call the text files you need a host that supports php (geocities free doesn't).

I was kind of wondering that myself, about the txt being exe, but there's nothing inside the text files that commands anything. All that's there is "&txt=" and then your text. So I think all the programming is in the .swf file. I was planning on upgrading to a paid geocities site after a while, but not right off the bat, ya know? I've always used geocities even though I never use the pagebuilder program, I'm just used to using it I guess. I'll see if I can find a free php supporting site just to try it out and I'll let you know what happens. Any other suggestions?

Well, if you need a host just to test stuff out, I have no problem hosting you. Shoot me over a pm or IM and I'll set you up.
